Rabbit is a soft furred mammal having warm blood. Rabbits generally use to live in burrow (hideaway). Rabbits are not like rat or mice. Rabbit is a long eared and short tail animal. Pet rabbits are generally referred as house rabbits. They can be very friendly with guinea pigs, some times cat and dogs and even they can be good companionship with humans.
Types of Rabbit:
Rabbit family is classified in different types like Cottontail Rabbits, Amami Rabbits, and European rabbit. Rabbits are found all around world. Generally most of rabbits are available in North America, Woods, and Forest.
Rabbit Care:
Rabbits are not good pet for children because rabbits are very delicate.They have fragile bones (especially their back bone is fragile), so they need support on stomach and bottom when they will pick up. Also rabbits are one type of a prey animal, so they are always alert and easily scare. Children are not well aware about precautions like stay clam, quite and gentle with them. So this is better to handle rabbits by elder than 10 years children, who are that much mature to take care of rabbits. House Rabbit have generally safe place to run is living room, family rooms. In day time rabbit use to stay in out door for fresh air and day light. Lawn places are also safe to survive for rabbits.
Rabbit Diet:
Pet rabbit’s diet is generally small pellets and fresh vegetables. Rabbit should be fed oat hay, fresh vegetables, water. They love to eat fresh grasses, herb and clover. Water bottle use for rabbits should be hang on hutch and in winter season that bottle should turning with fresh bottle to avoid freezing. The pellets for rabbits should not be older than 6 weeks and hay should be fresh as available for whole day. Hay is very health for rabbits because hay contains good quantity of fibers which help to prevent from blockage. Apple tree branches are a good source for fibers.
Rabbit Health:
Rabbits are generally healthy animals. Problem with rabbit health are generally hairballs, infection, intestinal problem, diarrhea and respiratory by wood fragment fumes. If you observe your rabbit is not feeling well or reacting differently, then get him to your vet. Daily exercise for rabbits are essential if they use to live indoor. To keep fit and healthy exercise is needed. Take care of area where your rabbit will run around and these areas should be safe from dogs and other animals. You can give your rabbit toys, card board or toilet paper roll to play.
Rabbit House:
Rabbit should keep in big pen; mostly rabbits are like to live in outdoor hatches. Keeping them outdoor is quit risky, if their house is well shelter then only you can keep them outdoor. Some people use to make a wired bottom rabbit house due to cleaning purpose.
Rabbits:
Normally rabbits are of 3 to 15 pounds i.e. 1.4 to 7.4 kg. Life expiry of rabbit is generally 5 to 15 years depending on breed. Larger sized rabbits have longer life than small rabbits.
Rabbit Breeding:
The time for mating and birth for rabbits are 28 to 30 days i.e. they have one month pregnancy period. Rabbit have 3-8 babies at a time. One interesting ting is new born babies are blind, unable to hear and hairless.
